OUR HISTORY
Southwest Pediatrics (SWP) began its days on 11745 SW Hwy on March 17, 1980 under the sole proprietorship of George Harris MD. SWP moved to its current Palos location in 1985. As SWP grew to a group of 4 physicians, a second office was opened at the current Mokena location in 1993.
Over the following years, we grew to a group of 5 physicians. The next big change occurred in 2012 when after more than 30 years using paper charts, we transitioned to an electronic medical record system.
The staff and doctors of SWP believe in serving the community to the best of its ability and this means acting as a medical home for its patients. On September 2016, we achieved Level 3 Certification as a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH). This is the highest level of recognition for use of patient centered, coordinated care management processes given by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
The current MDs of SWP are proud to be part of Dr. George Harris’ legacy of serving the families and communities of the southwest suburbs. We strive for excellence and hope to continue his legacy for future generations to come.
Hospital Affiliations
Our physicians are credentialed and on staff at Advocate Children’s Hospital (Oak Lawn), Palos Community Hospital (Palos Park) and Silver Cross Hospital (New Lenox).
Our physicians make daily rounds (ie see our patients who are admitted and newborns) at these three hospitals and can admit to these three hospitals if admission is needed.

Please remember to add your newborn baby to your insurance! Most insurances only allow 30 days to add your newborn to your policy. If you miss this window then you will have to wait until your policies annual enrollment period. Inquire before delivery or immediately after delivery what essential documents (ie birth certificate and/or social security number) your policy requires.
